Eternal Life is Life that continues throughout eternity. The Bible says that "the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord". We have actually;y begun our eternal life, as according to scripture we will either live eternally or die eternally, separated from Holy God. This is a chilling thought. This is a thought that should cause us to focus on the most important choice of your eternal life, whether to repent and believe in Jesus or choose to not believe and thus be separated from God for all eternity. The choice is ours but eternity has already begun.
It seems that lots of folks do not wish to believe in a literal Hell (eternal separation from Holy God) or in a situation where they might not be given a chance or an opportunity after death to be forgiven, but the Bible is very plain about this. "in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be." A lot of folks believe in some kind of cosmic scale in which they believe their deeds will be weighed and if they have done more good than evil: then, they will go to some good place. Lots of folks will not use the word Heaven. Some people say that a loving God would not send us to Hell. And as with all evil things there is some truth in that thought but it is wrapped up in.a lie, God does not send people to Hell, but loves them so much that he gives them a choice. A chance to escape the punishment for falling so short of the Holiness that God is. In fact God loves you so much that he came to earth to live as you do, experience the same things that you do, so that he might be a fit sacrifice, so that he might take on your sin debt, so that you might be saved for all eternity. To Live Eternally!
You see, our Creator has a standard. His very existence is Holiness. Mankind fell short of that because we chose to serve ourselves rather than to choose the same holiness as our Creator. Being our Creator, God has the right to destroy us, if he wished to, but loving his creation, he made the opportunity that he himself could take our form and willing take on our sins that he might die and return triumphant to let the truth resound throughout all eternity! it is then our choice, if we choose to repent of our sins, our rebellion and believe that our Creator has done this, then we will be saved!
It is unfortunate but also very just that it is also our choice not to believe.
Because God in his Holiness did not make us slaves, but gave us a very awesome, wonderful, terrible gift. Freewill. Because it was righteous that God made us with a choice.
You see having a choice is awesome, but with choice comes responsibility. We are truly responsible for our eternal Life.
